For this project, students should form groups of 3 to 5 students each to work on this project.
Work to do:
You are engaged in advising on the development of a high performance building solution for a client in Melbourne. The client wishes to increase the floor space by adding a further storey and upgrade a building to be safer, more accessible and energy efficient. The solutions have to comply with the Performance Requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC). You can choose any buildings in Melbourne as your case study.
The report should include:
l. Descriptions of the design and construction characteristics of the building chosen.
(5 marks)
2. Compare the performance of the existing building against the relevant Performance
Requirements and identify the potential deficiencies of the existing building.
Choose THREE of the following performance solution discipline areas:
Energy efficiency
Disability access
Fire safety
Plumbing
Health and amenity
• Structural safety
(15 marks, each performance solution area 5 marks)
3. Propose performance solutions for the upgrading of the existing building.
Choose the same performance solution discipline areas as those of Point 2.
Detail how to document, measure and verify the Performance Solutions that comply with the Performance Requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC).
(60 marks, each discipline area 20 marks)
4. Follow the Four-step Collaborative Process as outlined in the ABCB 'Developing a Performance Solution' Guidance document and include all the required information in the formulation of performance solutions. (20 marks)

Each group must submit a technical report that covers all the 4 Points as listed above.
Word count guide: 3000 words.
The report should be produced in a single document in A4 format, in a Word or pdf document. Photographs and sketches may be used, where relevant. Please ensure that any images are compressed before insertion into the document to minimize file size.
