Assignment 2 Instructions
Assignment: Appraisal of Eriksons Theory and application to a chosen case study:
1. Provide a suitable introduction to your assignment. Give the context, indicate what you will be discussing and grab the readers attention (5 marks).
Quite straightforward. This would be one paragraph.
2. Explain how the epigenetic principle unfolds and clarify the role of the -crisis- in the development of a child and adolescent. Show evidence of research (15 marks). Ensure that you discuss the epigenetic principle, what it means and how it unfolds in practice throughout the person’s life. Also make sure that you have fully explained the meaning of the concept of the “crisis” with regards to the development of the person in childhood including and up to adolescence. You MUST include research here besides your reading. Do not reference the lecturer’s Power Point. This would be one or more paragraphs, about a page.
3. Critically discuss the eight stages of development according to Erikson in relation to the South African context. Show evidence of research (25 marks). Discuss the eight stages according to Erikson. Ensure that this is done critically as you need to comment on its relevance to the South African context. This is not merely a summary of the theory -ensure that you find appropriate research to back up your statements. You can also speak from your own experience - but do not do this throughout your discussion as you need to also show that this is evidenced in research. This would be about 2 to 3 pages in length.
4. Research a well-known person and critically discuss this person’s story from the lens of Erikson’s Theory. Include the factors that have and have not contributed to the person’s holistic well-being in later life. Research using credible sources is critical here (30 marks).
Choose any well-known person: it could be anyone, e.g. a musician, sportsperson, politician, author, artist, etc. The person could be alive or deceased. It is very important here to discuss the person’s story and look at it from Erikson’s Theory perspective so you would need to look at the person’s story through all the stages that you can find out about (you may not be able to comment on all stages as you cannot find evidence to support your suppositions, however, you can comment on what you consider most likely from the evidence available). As is outlined in the instruction, do not forget to discuss how various factors in thelSffWW^RffWHIRfWWFRot contribute to

As is outlined in the instruction, do not forget to discuss how various factors in the person’s life did or did not contribute to their holistic well-being as they reached adulthood. They can presently be any any of the adult stages, as we are mainly looking at what happened in the person’s childhood up to adulthood. If the person is now older, you can go through some of the adult stages as well. Make sure that your discussion is critical so it can be critical of Erikson’s stages if you like - but still go through it from his perspective. Ensure that you have credible resources here. You may use newspaper or online articles. This section would be about 3 pages long, maybe even a little more if necessary as it is for 30% of your assignment so the bulk of it.
