Assignment 03: Big Business with Big Data
Marks: 20%
Assignment Type: Individual
Due Date: 11:59PM Monday 6th October 2014 (submit to CloudDeakin Dropbox).
Big Data has transformed the business environment of multiple industries through the proliferation of actionable information. The third assignment provides an opportunity to explore the role of Big Data within an industry of your choice through research and review of relevant resources.
You are required to identify such an industry, conduct a comprehensive literature search on the implications of Big Data, collate and analyse your findings/readings, identify the key areas you wish to discuss and compile a professionally written report as your assignment submission.
The report should focus on key aspects applicable to the chosen industry, including (but not limited to);
• Business value (from business questions to actionable outcomes)
• Technology (separately for Big Data management and analytics)
• Data (sources, integration and data quality issues)
• Other factors (privacy, ethics, organisational issues)
Report guidelines
1. Each report should contain an appropriate title and be no less than 3000 words.
2. The report should contain an executive summary that provides an overview of the report content.
3. The body of the report should contain a ‘table of contents’, ‘introduction’, logically organized subsections, a ‘conclusion’ and a ‘list of references’.
4. The subsections should preferably reflect the key aspects that have been investigated.
5. You may include diagrams, tables and charts – these do not count towards the word limit.
6. The length of the assignment excludes table of contents and references. When using length as a guide, the assessor will consider if the submission is reasonably succinct. That is, long article with little content will result in a lower grade than a shorter article covering about the same amount of content.
7. Reports should be written in Microsoft Word (font size 11) and submitted as a Word file.
8. Assignments are to be submitted online to the CloudDeakin dropbox.
