Recent Question/Assignment
NOTE THIS IS JUST SUGGESTED GUIDANCE FOR TASK 2 – YOU STILL NEED TO ENSURE YOU CAREFULLY READ THE ACTUAL OFFICIAL ASSESSMENT GUIDE
NB: Structure of the submission (as per assessment guide):
1. Cover-page
2. Introduction
3. Identification of the job role and key skills requirements
4. Reflection and linkage to newly acquired skills
5. List of references.
6. Appendix 1 (job description / specification – for your chosen job)
Below is some tips and general guidance – points three and four (above) come within what is described as the ‘main body’ below.
Example Title:
Reflection on Suitability for the role of Assistant Manager at Boots
Introduction
[The introduction should ideally be 80 to 110 words (10% of total word count).]
[The introduction should explain 4 things]
1. What the task is (i.e. what have we asked you to do) – short summary
2. Why did you chose the particular job you selected
3. How the main body will be structured / the approach you have taken towards completing the task – very important
4. Any theory you have used or any learning you are basing your observations on.
Main Body
1. This should be split into neat paragraphs – remember to structure it as you told us it would be structured in the introduction
2. On average your paragraphs will be about 4-7 sentences or 100 – 200 words
3. Cleary state the purpose / key topic of each paragraph in the opening sentence
4. Do you need sub-headings for each paragraph – or just 1 or 2 sub-headings (each covering more than one paragraph) – you decide but make sure sub-headings clearly fit the subject matter within the section.
5. Are you clearly telling us about which part of the JD you are referring to in each paragraph? – if that is not clear you will lose marks (you do not have to cover the whole JD – only the most relevant parts)
6. Are you reflecting on what you learned in the CMI assessment 1? – if that is not clear you will lose marks (i.e. evidence of self-awareness, managing relationships, personal resilience and emotional intelligence)
Conclusion: approx – 80 – 110 words – summary of key points – Is the job right for me? – actions points – skills you need to develop.
Practice Task (this can be done in a seminar – note – this is just practice for your essay – obviously you will be using your own job description the one below is just an example!!):
Look at the example Job Specification Document on the next page – pick 2 or 3 examples of sections of the job description that you think you can reflect on in a meaningful way: a) linking that part of the JD to your own skill-set and b) linking that part of the JD to evidence of (either) self-awareness, managing relationships, personal resilience and/or emotional intelligence.
TOP TIP: whatever job you pick make sure that it has a big enough and suitable enough description to give you enough material to cover the topics you have been asked to cover.
