ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• This is an individual assignment and must be completed as such.
• You must use the Harvard referencing system.
• Requests for short-term extensions will only be considered in the case of illness or other cause considered valid by the Student Advisor (iCentre@lca.anglia.ac.uk).These must normally be received and agreed by the Student Advisor in writing at least TWENTY-FOUR (24) hours prior to the deadline.
• In order to achieve full marks, you must submit your work before the deadline. Work that is submitted late – up to five working days after the published submission deadline - will be accepted and marked. However, the submission will be capped with a maximum mark of 40%.

ESSAY QUESTION
This assessment is an argument-style essay of 1,500 words including a 300-word essay outline on a topic related to your chosen undergraduate degree, e.g. Business, Human Resource Management, Health and Social Care, Accounting and Finance, Events Management, Hospitality Management etc. The title is chosen by you and approved by your class tutor in teaching week 3.
SUGGESTED STRUCTURE
INTRODUCTION includes: background information to the topic, detailed information relating to the problem, a thesis statement showing your position, the opposing position, and how the essay will be structured (approx. 150-200 words)
Body paragraph 1: Argument 1 - Counter-argument 1 – Rebuttal 1 – EVIDENCE AND EXAMPLE (approx. 300 words)
Body paragraph 2: Argument 2 – Counter-argument 2 – Rebuttal 2 – EVIDENCE AND EXAMPLE (approx. 300 words)
Body paragraph 3: Argument 3 – Counter-argument 3 – Rebuttal 3 – EVIDENCE AND EXAMPLE (approx. 300 words)
CONCLUSION includes: a brief summary of the arguments, a restatement of the thesis statement, and a future
prediction or recommendation. (approx. 100-150 words)
Reference list: to include all references cited in the essay (in Harvard style). (not included in overall word count)

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
· Knowledge and understanding of relevant research in order to produce a logical and balanced argument. (50%)
· Ability to communicate effectively in the written form, manage learning resources, work independently and demonstrate practical/academic skills. (50%)
Knowledge and Understanding: 0-50 marks
Marks will be awarded for the overall quality of the content presented. It is therefore important for each group member to prepare well-researched material. Marks will be allocated in terms of:
· Complexity
· Logical structure
· Research
· References
· Integration of evidence
Communicative, Transferrable and Practical Skills: 0-50 marks
Equally, marks will be awarded for the standard of the writing. Marks will be allocated in terms of:
· Coherence
· Evidence of effective planning
· Cohesion
· Control of register
· Accuracy of language and academic style

POINTS TO CONSIDER:
· You are encouraged to decide on your title by the end of week 3 which you must email directly to your tutor for approval and guidance. Once your tutor has approved it (via email), you must write a detailed essay plan which must be approved by your tutor before you begin writing. The essay outline forms part of the assessed content and must be included in the final submission (a template will be provided).
· You will be supported in weeks one to three by your tutor in finding a suitable argument essay title / topic. If you are having difficulty choosing a topic / title, your tutor will assist you and may direct you to a bank of possible titles related to your degree subject.
· It is vital that your essay include references to source material to show that you have researched your topic, and that you know how to integrate sources into your writing.
· You can find suitable sources through the ARU online library. It is VERY important that you attend the arranged library session where Maria, the ARU London librarian, will show you how to access the online library and do relevant online searches. This is a skill that is essential for your studies.
· This assignment must be completed individually.
· You must use Harvard referencing system.
· Your work must indicate the number of words you have used. Do not exceed the maximum number of words specified above; all assignments which do so will be penalised. The penalty will be the deduction of marks at the Marker’s judgement.
· Assignment submissions are to be made anonymously. Do not write your name anywhere on your work. Write your student ID number at the top of every page.
· Where the assignment comprises more than one task, all tasks must be submitted in a single document.
· You must number all pages.
