Overview
A gym has conducted a survey of its customers. After reading the literature, perform a
suitable analysis and propose a change to the business. Then pretend you do some market
research to check if customers approve of the change. You will have to find a 95%
confidence interval for the proportion of customers that support your proposed change and
test the claim the proportion of customers that support the change is above 50%
2
Dataset
You must use the datasets given below:
Customer survey data
Proposed change data
3
Report Structure
The suggested report structure is as follows
Section 1. Introduction
Section 2. Reviewing academic source(s) or website(s) relevant to the survey of gym
customers
Find at least one journal article or website related to the survey of Gym customers and give
a brief description.
Section 3. A simple Bivariate analysis of the customer survey data
Include at least one bivariate analysis that shows the relationship between two variables
you discussed in Section 2.
(Use the
Customer survey data
And use a filter to select a dataset based on your student number
A guide for this is available from

)
When you do a Bivariate analysis there are 3 possible cases:
Case 1: Two categorical variables
Give a two-way table, also give a chart that compares the proportions of the different
groups.
Case 2: One categorical and one numerical variable
Give a table that compares the means and standard deviations of each group. Also, give a
chart that shows the distribution of each variable.
Case 3: Two numerical variables
Give a scatterplot that shows the relationship between both variables. Also, find the mean
and standard deviation for each of the variables.
In all cases you need to give suitable comments.
Make sure you output includes the sample sizes.
Section 4. Managerial advice
Make a proposed changed based on your review of academic sources and bivariate analysis
Section 5. Analyze the survey data related to the proposed change in Section 4
Find a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of customers that support the proposed
change and test the claim the proportion of customers that support the change is above 50%
(Use the
Proposed change data
And use a filter to select a dataset based on your student number

Section 6. Conclusion
Give a conclusion to Sections 2
–
5
Section 7. Discuss the abuses of statistics
Discuss possible issues with the questionnaires, the data set and the summary statistics you
used.
Section 8. Discuss the limitations of quantitative research
Sections 3 and 5 of your assignment is quantitative research because they are an analysis of
close ended questions. State and discuss the limitations of quantitative research, Under
what circumstances do you need to use Qualitative research.
Section 9. Reference list

Some tips for doing the assignment
section 2 you have a quick look at the literature review assignment, that has many journal
articles for doing the assignment
section 3
refer to the following guide on summarizing datasets.

Section 5
There are similar questions in the week 5 and week 6 tutorial just cut and paste.
Section 7
discuss the abuses of statistics, you just have to discuss two relevant examples in total.
You can google one or two of the following
1.
The data comes from questionnaires, there are many mistakes you can make with
questionnaires, for example the questions might be confusing
2.
You can find the mean for numerical variables but it does not always represent a
typical value, sometimes the median represents a typical value.
3.
Samples are not always representative
4.
A sample is only an estimate of the population
5.
BMI measures considers height and weight and for most people a BMI above 30
means they are obese but it does not work for bodybuilders
6.
If you study the relationship between two variables you need to consider lurking
(intervening variables)
7.
Some types of measurement are problematic, for example BMI is supposed to
measure obesity
And technically a BMI of above 30 means a person is obese but it does not work for
body builders
In the example both people have a BMI of 33.9
since they both have a height of 6 feet (183cm) and a weight of 250 pounds (113kg)
However only one of them has a health problem
Section 8
refer to the week 7 and 8 lectures, sometimes you need to use Qualitative research methods
because quantitative research methods, For example in section 5 you can establish majority
of people support the change but you do not know why, to find out why you would use
quantitative methods.
