Assignment 4: Peer Review of Fire Engineering Report
ASSIGNMENT 4
PEER REVIEW OF A FIRE ENGINEERING REPORT
See Learning Guide of the unit for assignment due dates and general requirements.
Attached is a fictitious Performance Solution Report (for 211 Test Close, Parramatta - Report Number: 2024/03, Revision 1.2). You are to undertake a peer review to identify issues with the report, both substantial and minor and document this in the form of a professional peer review report.
Note: Substantial issues / errors refer to items that could lead to a highly undesirable outcome or consequence, indicate the report author does not have a fundamental understanding of fire engineering topics, or indicate a major deviation from the recommendations in the Australian Fire Engineering Guidelines.
A minor issue/error is where something may be incorrect, however it doesn’t impact the analyses or outcomes of the report.
You are to identify and describe 5 significant issues / errors and address the following:
• Identify the Section of the Report (1 mark)
• Description of the issue / error (4 marks)
• What are the potential implications if this was identified late in the design phase? (3 marks)
• What should be done to rectify this issue/error? (4 marks)
• What are the potential implications if this was not identified and the building was constructed and occupied based on a Fire Engineering Report (FER) with this issue/error also included? (3 marks)
Please ensure that at least 1 significant issue / error is identified for each performance solution analysis in Sections 12, 13 and 14 of the fictitious report (i.e. one from Section 12, one from Section 13 and one from Section 14).
You are also to identify and describe 3 minor issues / errors and address the following:
• Identify the Section of the Report (1 mark)
• Description of the issue / error (2 marks)
• What should be done to rectify this issue/error? (2 marks)
Remaining marks will be allocated to the format and presentation of your report.
Please provide your responses in a professional peer review report format which includes items such as:
• Cover Sheet
• Report identification and revision control
• Author
• Introduction
• Documentation/drawings
• Identification of the issues as outlined above (the table format shown on the following pages is to be used) • Conclusion; and
• References.
Please note:
(1) An error should only be identified once (discuss repeats of the same error as one error);
(2) Language, grammatical or typing errors with no significant consequences are not to be identified; and,
(3) Do not exceed the number of errors requested, as only the number requested will be assessed and marked.
Format for identification of issues:
Substantial Issues / Errors
# 1

Description of the issue / error
What are the potential implications if this was identified late in the design phase?
What should be done to rectify this issue/error?
What are the potential implications if this was not identified and the building was constructed and occupied based on the FER with this issue/error also included?
Repeat the above for issues 2, 3 and 4
Minor Issues / Errors
# 5
Identify the Section of the Report
Description of the issue / error
