ALL LABS REQUIRE A COMPLETE AND PROPERLY FORMATTED LAB REPORT; ANY ASSIGNMENT THAT DOES NOT HAVE A LAB REPORT WILL BE GIVEN A FAILING GRADE.
Cells contain many organic molecules. These molecules are essential to life. Many of them are acquired from the food we eat. In this lab you will study carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
During this online lab, you will learn how to test for each of these organic molecules (also known as macromolecules) by observing reactions between various reagents and an unknown substance to test for biochemical activity. Watch the provided video (click here), which details a lab technician completing tests for carbohydrates, proteins and fats. As you watch the video, you will complete a lab report based on the scientific processes provided to you. Your lab report should be composed based on the activities done within the lab video, and should be inclusive of the following:
1) Introduction/objective
2) Hypothesis
3) Materials (what was used within the lab)
4) Procedure (how those materials were used in the lab)
5) Data (the results of the tests completed on the vials of unknown substances)
6) Analysis/Conclusion (describe the results of the experiment for macromolecules, and discuss what you have learned from the lab test for organic molecules [minimum 250 word paragraph])
