COMPLETING YOUR ASSIGNMENT:
• This assignment must be completed individually.
• You must use Harvard Cite Them Right referencing system (LL.B Law students should use OSCOLA and Psychology students should use APA)
• Your work must indicate the number of words you have used or the approximate time if it is a presentation. Written assignments must not exceed the specified maximum number of words. When a written assignment is marked, the excessive use of words/time beyond the limit is reflected in the academic judgement of the piece of work which results in a lower mark being awarded for the piece of work.
• Assignment submissions are to be made anonymously. Do not write your name anywhere on your work.
• Write your student ID number at the top of every page; for presentations, please give your tutor your ID number at the beginning of the presentation.
• The assignment comprises more than one task, all tasks must be submitted
• You must number all pages.
SUBMITTING YOUR ASSIGNMENT:
To achieve full marks, you must submit your work before the deadline. Any late work must adhere to ARU late policy.

ASSIGNMENT TASK:
For this assignment you will be writing a series of three micro-reports discussing how different psychological approaches explain learning.
Assessment description and marking criteria
? Students must complete tasks 1, 2, and 3 (below, see suggested structure) to minimum levels of understanding in order to meet pass mark
? Students will write a series of three micro-reports all discussing different ways psychological approaches define and describe: learning.
? A micro-report is a condensed written piece, focussing on the content rather than full essay structure. A micro-report will have a thesis only rather than a full introduction and then will develop that thesis through targeted examples and explanation.
? Students must choose three micro-report topics from these psychological disciplines. Each will discuss the different ways that discipline analyses the development of learning.
Biological
Cognitive
Behavioural
Social
Developmental
Please ONLY choose THREE.
? No introduction or conclusion paragraphs, each micro-report should begin with a thesis statement to signal the focus/perspective of that section and include other paragraph separation as needed.
? Each micro-report should:
Be indicated by a subheading
There will be no overall introduction or conclusion.
Have a thesis statement but not a full introduction
Focus on learning and give an explanation of the chosen approaches theories regarding how we learn.
Give examples (using research citations) of evidence from the approach relating to theories on learning.
Provide critical evaluation of theories given
Each topic must have at least one resource to support claims, evidenced by in-text citations
? Students will be marked on the depth of your understanding of the topic you have chosen based on how articulately you explain this in your own words and by giving multiple specific examples of the issue. Academic quality resources are the best way to help you develop deep knowledge. The main goal is analysis, to break the information down in understanding and then to draw connections outwards.
? Word counts in suggested structure are indicative. Amount of focus devoted should be generally equal to each of the three micro-report topics. Students who do not meet or vastly exceed this overall limit will lose 10% of their grade.
? Students must give considerable attempt to provide theories from three separate psychological approaches (listed above) in order to pass
? Students must use a wide variety of resources to research the assignment (at least 3 reputable resources).
? Students must meet the required number of appropriate sources and use Harvard Cite them Right/APA format appropriately in-text and in the reference list in order to meet pass mark.
Students must submit via TurnitinUK. No submissions via email will be accepted. Formative Feedback and Submission dates are indicated on the Assessments tile of Moodle and the TurnItIn Portal.
The submission deadline for this assignment is 2pm.
Structure
Sample Structure:
*The titles of sections may change depending on which psychological theories you choose but the general structure is indicative. This assessment should have report structure so subheadings should separate each task and named in relation to the content of that section.
Cover Sheet- Please use and complete the ARUC coversheet attached on the ‘Assessments’ tile of Moodle
- insert page break to start introduction on pg 2 of your document- place student ID in headers of all pages
Task 1- Psychological Approach 1 e.g., Biological*- give a thesis statement with the key theories of learning in this approach. Describe the key parts of the theories in paraphrased words (with citations) showing you understand how this theory explains learning. Apply this to relevant understanding of the concept of learning as described by the approach. Provide critical evaluation. (800-1000 words)
Task 2- Psychological Approach 2 e.g., Cognitive* - give a thesis statement with the key theories of learning in this approach. Describe the key parts of the theories in paraphrased words (with citations) showing you understand how this theory explains learning. Apply this to relevant understanding of the concept of learning as described by the approach. Provide critical evaluation. (800-1000 words)
Task 3- Psychological Approach 3 e.g., Social* - give a thesis statement with the key theories of learning in this approach. Describe the key parts of the theories in paraphrased words (with citations) showing you understand how this theory explains learning. Apply this to relevant understanding of the concept of learning as described by the approach. Provide critical evaluation. (800-1000 words)
List of References. Harvard Cite Them Right/APA layout (does not count towards word count)- at least three reputable academic resources.
*Given as Example, other approaches from the listed options can be chosen
Learning Outcomes
ARU College are taught on the basis of intended learning outcomes and, on successful completion of this module, you will be expected to be able to demonstrate you have met these outcomes.
Understanding and Cognitive Skills
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding to:
1. Identify ethical risks and manage them through elimination, substitution, or minimisation via a risk assessment
2. Apply ethical practice to real-world scenarios
3. Describe fundamental concepts and theories behind the different psychological approaches and analyse research based on empirical evidence and data
4. Describe the scientific method and its application in psychological research and apply it through identifying meaningful patterns in behaviour and experience
You will be marked according to the following criteria:
Marking criteria Learning Outcomes % of overall mark
Task 1
Is the thesis statement with the key theories of learning in this approach present?
Clear description of the key parts of the theories in paraphrased words (with citations).
Critical evaluation present
Adequate understanding of how the theory explains how we learning information shown?
