We do not read drafts, but your tutors are available to discuss the questions with you and to offer some suggestions. Make an appointment with your tutor if you would like to run your ideas past your tutor or if you are having problems. Make sure you understand the question you are attempting. It is VERY important that you answer the question that is asked. Your tutors will run through the questions in class later in the semester. The questions are designed to make you think about the whole unit. Answers that demonstrate this will be rewarded.
1. As early as 1943 journalist Brian Penton said that the ‘prosperity of Asia is far more … important to Australia than the prosperity of America or Britain.’ Was he right?
2. Historically Australia has sought security through a powerful protector. Has this been the right thing to do? Should Australia adopt a different approach now?
3. How does Australia's past equip it to deal with the Asian century? Discuss some aspects of our past that might help or hinder our new place in the Asia-Pacific.
4. Is Australia's relationship to Britain still important? Discuss some of the ways in which our ties to Britain have been both strengthened and weakened since 1788.
