Your task
Individually, you are required to develop a three-page concept statement for an entrepreneurial venture and pitch the idea to the class. The class will assume the role of potential investors.
Assessment Description
The purpose of this assessment is to provide students with an opportunity to use a concept statement template to format and plan the delivery of their elevator pitch. The concept statement will provide the required learning to develop a comprehensive and well-structured business plan for a new venture. The elevator pitch will provide you with the necessary skills to present a business plan to potential investors or internal stakeholder and effectively answer probing questions on the substance of the plan.
Assessment Instructions
Venture Idea: your first task is to come up with a new venture idea. This idea can be for a commercial venture or a venture that addresses a social issue (a social enterprise idea). The venture should not be a mere copy of an existing idea.
Concept statement template: after finalising the venture idea, you need to complete the concept statement template. During this process, you must seek guidance from the workshop facilitator. The concept statement will allow you to focus on essential aspects that would highlight the commercial (or social) viability of the venture. You should integrate scholarly literature when completing the concept statement.
Elevator pitch format: you can use the elevator pitch format to prepare for the in-class pitch.
In-class pitch: in the class during week eight, each student will get a maximum of two minutes to present the venture idea to the class. Apart from presenting, each student must ask at least one question from another student.
Assessment submission
A ‘Word’ version of the completed Concept Statement should be submitted to Turnitin to avoid any technical issues that may occur from incorrect file format upload. Uploaded files with a virus will not be considered as a legitimate submission. Turnitin will notify you if there is an issue with the submitted file. In this case, you must contact your workshop facilitator via email and provide a brief description of the issue and a screenshot of the Turnitin error message. You are also encouraged to submit your work well in advance of the deadline to avoid any possible delay with the Turnitin similarity report or any other technical difficulties that may occur.
You are not required to submit the completed elevated pitch format.
Late assignment submission penalties
Penalties will be imposed on late assignment submissions in accordance with Kaplan Business School “late assignment submission penalties” policy.
Number of days Penalty
1* - 9 days 5% per day for each calendar day late deducted from the total marks available
10 - 14 days 50% deducted from the total marks available.
After 14 days Assignments that are submitted more than 14 calendar days after the due date will not be accepted, and the student will receive a mark of zero for the assignment(s).
Note Notwithstanding the above penalty rules, assignments will also be given a mark of zero if they are submitted after assignments have been returned to students
*Assignments submitted at any stage within the first 24 hours after the deadline will be considered to be one day late and therefore subject to the associated penalty
