Part I: Theory (5 marks)
1. Watch the following TED Talk Hans Rosling: The best stats you’ve ever seen and provide an analysis. What was the talk about? What was the key message? Did you like this talk – why or why not? How will this TED Talk be useful in your future analysis and visualization projects?
2. Review the following resource: https://extremepresentation.typepad.com/files/choosing-a-good-chart-09.pdf. What are the strengths/weaknesses of a chart chooser like this? How would you improve this chart chooser if you were to create your own?
Part II: Recreate (5 marks)
Recreate the following Tableau dashboard using the data set Flood Data - Clean.xlsx. Name your file: Assignment 1 - your name - Part II.twbx

Specific Instructions:
- Top left descriptions and filters. Filters only affect the bar graph and map. Top charts are not affected.

- Top right chart (bar charts)
o Has a black background, white font text
o Bar color for each measure uses 5 step, Gray Warm palette

o When you hover over any of the bars, the following tooltip should show up. # floods can be derived from distinct count of registers

- Bottom left chart (map)
o Use Latitude of Centroid V and Longitude of Centroid X to plot the countries
o Use circle as mark.
§ Each circle represents a Register # in a particular country.
§ Size of circle is determined by Affected sq km
o Color by Magnitude. Use Orange-Gold palette, 5-step. Start color at Magnitude 6
o When you hover any country, the following tooltip will show up:

Once done, print your dashboard to PDF.
Part III: Report & Critique (5 marks)
1. Looking at your data and the dashboard, what is happening? What can you tell, in general, about significant floods around the world? Does it affect the area you work in (ie healthcare, engineering, technology, etc)?
2. If you were asked to do a makeover on Part II dashboard, what would you change and why?

Part IV: Choose your own data (5 marks)
Choose a data set from the City of Vancouver Open Data website (https://data.vancouver.ca/datacatalogue/index.htm). Analyze the data. You are welcome to supplement the data set as you see fit.
Create a Tableau dashboard that effectively tells your analysis and story. Make use of titles, descriptions (text boxes) and annotations as appropriate. Name your file:
Assignment 1 - your name - Part IV.twbx Once done, print your dashboard to PDF.
Part V: Report (5 marks)
Create a 1 to 2-page report on the views and dashboard you created in Part IV.
- What was your data set? Why did you choose it? Provide a link to the data set you chose.
- Was the data clean? Did you have to transform your data?
- What do your visuals say? What is your analysis?
- What are your recommendations and/or conclusions?
- Is there anything else about this analysis that the reader should be aware about?

2. Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx) and exported PDF version (.pdf) for Part II
