This Assessment provides students with the opportunity to apply theory in a practical manner, and enhances deeper understanding of day/day operational tasks in facility management.

YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH ONE IS EASIER THE VENUE YOU CAN USE CAN BE SYDNEY OLIMPIC PARK OR IAN THORPE AQUATIC CENTER.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Option A – Free Selection Assessment
· Develop a report , on one topic as per the list below (in Part B). The submission will primarily be informational/factual but must end with a conclusion which should be focussed on learnings from the research (this may including ‘findings’ / recommendations).
· Each student’s final submission to be (also) posted on the portal so the class can access and benefit from research on a range of topics.
Topics: Select 1 of the following to research and report on.
· Trends- select/name a Sport or Recreation facility trend: explore the impacts/implications of the trend on this industry e.g. facility design issues in capacity planning / inadequate consideration of future capacity requirements = poor outcomes for users, or the increase in use of Social Media Technologies and how to leverage them;
· Innovation in venue or sport specific technologies;
· Risks in daily operations of Community sport facilities
· Privatisation of venue management – history, how it actually works vs opposite, challenges, students’ opinion as to whether it’s the right approach i.e. pros/cons
· Needs Assessments
· Sports sharing facilities – from an operational perspective, does it work? Explore the issues from a sport users’ perspective of either simultaneous use by 2 or more sports, or from a sequential/consecutive season use (1) sport to another sport
· Organisatonal effectiveness (NFP, government or private sector run-specify) – issues/trends in HR management, Revenue generation or
· Innovations in facility systems, venue management technology or infrastructure (sport specific or playing surfaces)
· Identify a common problem or challenge for Sport or Recreation Facilities from a site Operations and /or Management perspective- Identify the venue type or specific venue. Provide a brief background on the organizational structure, how it operates then describe the problem and analyse the impacts. Then develop an overall strategy and detailed action plan to resolve each issue.
Format of document submission:
· The report structure should include an introduction, body and conclusion.
· Provide a professional looking document that includes a Title page, Table of Contents, use of page numbers and use headings. Use of images or other visuals such as Smart Art, maps or plans are encouraged. Use of tables and Appendices is encouraged, note that content in these formats are not included in the word count.

· You may use footnotes if necessary to include extra information which may otherwise disrupt the flow of the paper. Footnotes are not included in the word count.
· Include a full reference list. The reference list should be in the appropriate College referencing style (see the Academic Writing guide). Make sure you properly acknowledge any material from another author/source you use including research material (such as articles, government reports/websites, and interviews). See the Academic Writing Guide for assistance.
OR

Option B
This assessment encompasses all of the skills gained throughout the subject and your other assessments. Students will choose and identify a venue type or a specific venue, which needs to be approved by the Lecturer. Students will then develop a Facility Operations Plan to comprise of content relating to the following:
1. A brief introduction covering ( at a minimum) venue details such as address, spaces and uses
2. Maintenance Plan
3. Operations Schedule – rosters, rotating use of surfaces etc
4. Supplier list
5. Organisation Chart
6. Evacuation Plan & Procedure
Research to support the content could be sourced from the venue/facility owner’s publications such as Annual Reports, Business Plans or floor plans.
**Research must be limited to what is publicly available and unless students work for or are a member of the sport/venue or organisation that they are doing this assessment on, students are not to contact the venue or venue owner.
