Students are to choose one theorist (relevant to Early Childhood Education and care [ECEC]) and provide a brief introduction of his/her achievements. Students are required to discuss the main theories (ideas) and their implications for education. Students then need to critically reflect on how the theoretical ideas might have influenced teaching practice and children’s learning in the Australian early childhood educational context. To critically reflect is to think deeply about what you have read and discussed in class. In the conclusion, students are asked to reflect and consider how these theories align with your beliefs and values as a preservice teacher.
