This assessment will provide evidence that you have achieved competency in the following Elements of Competency and Performance Criteria:
1. Apply information literacy skills to meet needs 1.1 Refine understanding of information literacy concepts and what constitutes an information literate person
1.2 Determine exact nature and extent of information needs
1.3 Develop effective search strategies and select appropriate search tools to locate information
1.4 Assess the usefulness and relevance of information resources in relation to customer requests
1.5 Evaluate search results and adjust search strategies to meet information needs
2. Provide customers with search results 2.1 Critically analyse search results and select relevant information to meet purpose
2.2 Compile reference lists and bibliographies of relevant information resources following standard referencing styles
2.3 Select appropriate communication methods for presenting information to customers based on nature and purpose of requests and intended audience
2.4 Communicate with customers in relation to information requests according to organisational policies
2.5 Acknowledge copyright and licensing issues related to access and use of information
3. Evaluate own work and skills 3.1 Seek feedback from colleagues regarding own information literacy skills
3.2 Plan and implement strategies and opportunities to support lifelong learning
3.3 Evaluate own information literacy skills against own goals
3.4 Update knowledge of current and emerging technologies that impact on information literacy skills
Penalties
There will be a penalty mark deduction if your test paper is submitted late. The penalties are:
If the assessment event is up to seven (7) days late the total mark achieved by the student will be reduced by 15%, OR the grade is reduced by one level. Eg A Competent with Distinction grade will be reduced to a Competent with Credit grade.
If the assessment is more than seven (7) days late the mark is reduced to zero, or the grade reduced to a fail.

RESEARCH PROCESS REP ORT MARK /30
You must upload a report on your research. The report must include the following:
i. A list of at least 3 new search tools you used in your research. That is – search tools NOT previously learned in a library studies unit. NB this may be a specific database which falls under a previously used Vendor’s suite of databases (eg CBCA Complete: History from Proquest)
For each search tool include a brief description of the subject areas it covers, what kinds of materials it holds and what target audience(s) it is suitable for.
ii. A -wireframe- sketch of your pathfinders -home- page.
This must indicate named navigation tabs, page layout, and content headings and brief description. This may be hand drawn or made using a software program such as Microsoft Word or other.
For your wireframe answer the following questions.
1. List the separate pages (indicated by navigation tabs)
2. Why did you choose to break your information up into these pages/navigation tabs? What are the benefits of choosing this method? What other ways could you have organised your information?
3. Write a brief paragraph for each page about the content and how it will be arranged on the page. NB - will most/all of you pages feature the same layout?
4. Provide the URL of a web based pathfinder that has influenced your decision (positively or negatively) and make comment on how.
iii. Describe any difficulties you encountered whilst researching, organising or presenting the pathfinder and how they were dealt with. (give specific examples) These may include:
• problems with understanding content of some records
• too much or too little available material
• finding sources that cover the topic
• problems in selecting citations for all aspects of the topic in order to ensure maintaining appropriate balance
iv. Write a brief description of your career ambitions and how Information literacy will play a part. You must include:
1. Type of library you would like to work in
2. Roles or tasks you hope to perform
3. Description of what role(s) Information literacy will play in this position (eg how will it support career progress, will you use it to support client needs and how?)
v. A description on how you plan to keep up to date with changes in your chosen career area – this may include professional organisations, message boards, Trade or professional journals. Must include 2 examples
vi. A diary of consultations with your teacher - include dates and what was discussed.
