Assessment task 2 - Research report
This is a research assignment that requires you to demonstrate the skills required to effectively research, plan, implement and evaluate changes in practice and programs in the community.
This assessment is worth 80% of your final grade.
You will work independently for this assessment.
Length – 2000 words in total

To achieve a satisfactory mark in this assessment, you need to provide a report that:
• Is written completely in your own words
• Has a word count within the 10% range
• Shows that all of the ideas and statistics you have used have been supported by appropriate references
• Addresses (in full) each of the dot points listed under each sub heading
There are three (3) parts to this assessment.

Part one - TOPIC
You will select a topic that will be relevant to your area of study. Please note that the chosen topic must be an issue that is supported by appropriate evidence (i.e. you must be able to prove that it is an issue and should not solely reflect a personal opinion).
The topic will address a health issue or program where a need for change can be proven.

For example:
Disability
Alcohol, other drugs and mental health Community Health
Changes in the way we support people with behaviours of concern Changes in the approach to morphine addiction in your local community Working with schools to improve anti-bullying policies
Supporting people with disabilities to live in the community Community inclusion for people who have a dual diagnosis Reviewing the effectiveness of community gardens
Individualised supports and their impact on quality of life for people with disabilities Knowledge to the community about the harm caused by alcohol Measuring social inclusion of older people in the community
Measuring social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities The prevention of discrimination towards people with mental illness in the workplace Assessing the need for community support for asylum seekers
Considering supported vs open employment opportunities for people with disabilities Strategies to prevent crime related to drug and alcohol abuse Knowledge of the effects of the environment on community health


You should check your topic with your tutor BEFORE starting the report.

Part two – RESEARCH REPORT (1000 words approx.)
The research report will address the following dot points using the subheadings provided in bold:
Introduction, this includes:
• A brief introduction of the chosen issue or program supported by relevant reliable research
Research methods, this includes:
• Describe how you have gathered your evidence
• Identify at least three sources you have used to collect your evidence
Analysis of evidence, this includes:
• Reflect and compare the evidence you have collected
• Comment on the level, quality, relevance and strength of your evidence
Needs assessment and problem identification, this includes:
• Draw conclusions on whether or not your evidence supports the topic you have chosen
• Describe how your evidence suggests something needs to be changed
• Identify one change or program that you would like to introduce that addresses your chosen topic
• Consider how this might differ from what clients or people in the community are wanting or asking for

Part 3 – PROJECT REPORT (1000 words approx.)
The project report will address the following dot points using the subheadings provided in bold:
Introduction, this includes:
• A brief introduction of the project or change (as identified in the second last dot point of the previous ‘needs assessment’ section)
• A summary of evidence you have collected that supports the change or program you suggest
Project action plan, this includes:
• An action plan in table format that outlines the:
• Goals
• Objectives
• Timeline
• Budget estimate
• Resources required
• Stakeholders involved
Monitoring & evaluation, this includes:
• An outline of how you will monitor the progress of the program or change
• An outline of how you will evaluate the program or change overall
• A summary of how you will report your findings and who you will report these to (also consider organisational policies & procedures)
Sustainability, this includes:
Explain how you can maintain the changes that have occurred
