LEARNING TASK 2 INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
ASSESSMENT ESSAY
ASSESSMENT DUE DATE 10AM MONDAY Week 12
WEIGHT 20%
LENGTH 2,000 words
Write an essay addressing the following topic.
Consider your experience over the semester as a member of your project team. What has worked well? What has not been so satisfactory or effective? Evaluate the development and functioning of your group / team according to the relevant theories and models of team functioning and development that you have encountered in class or in your reading (of the text and other change management literature). On the basis of your reading and reflection, what would you do differently, given this experience, to enhance the performance of the group and the satisfaction of its members?
Remember to present your essay with an appropriate title page, abstract and reference list. You must go beyond the prescribed text and cite at least six other sources from the management of change literature in the course of writing your essay. Only include in your reference list those items you have cited.
Assessment will be in terms of:
• The quality of reflections on the group functioning
• The application of theoretical models to the group functioning
• Development of logical and well supported arguments
• Clarity of expression, structure and referencing.
LEARNING TASK 3 PROFESSIONAL REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
ASSESSMENT Ungraded
PURPOSE
The purpose of the journal is to record and systematically reflect on learning achieved in this course. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as managers have found journals invaluable in their personal management development. Keeping a professional reflective journal will also help to facilitate the learner’s observational and perceptual abilities - skills that are particularly important for effectively managing organisational change.
DESCRIPTION
This Learning Task will involve students in individual reflection upon a range of course and professional matters including:
• what has been learnt in this course, particularly the experience gained from undertaking the group project
• the evolution of ideas
• the relevance of what has been learnt in the context of professional practice
• any new competencies the participant has gained from participation in this course
• whether any of the objectives of the course have been attained by the participant.
It is suggested that after you have been involved in any activity to do with BUHRM 3701 (Management of Change & Organisational Development) you note down the “significant remembrances†of your learning. This is not a revision of material but concentrates on how you have incorporated and applied new learning to your work or non-work life. This could include significant learning points, critical incidents, feelings, discoveries and any reflections you may have on both the content and process experience. To be most effective your journal writing should also include accounts of how learnings have and will be transformed into action, what you have learnt about how you learn, and a reflection on the process of journal writing itself.
During the semester some tutorial time will be dedicated to the discussion, practice and review of keeping a professional reflective journal.
Whilst this is an ungraded learning task, the journal needs to be submitted with the individual assignment.
