Group Assignment: Global Business Project
Every organization conducts research to plan and implement a business idea. Your group can plan a global expansion of an existing product or service, or can research a new foreign business opportunity. The final result should be a written report of no more than 20 pages including tables, figures, and references.
Business Opportunity Summary
The business opportunity summary should not exceed 6 pages including references.
The first component of the business plan is the preparation of a business opportunity summary.
Your summary should consist of the following:
Walmart International business will be our topic for group study.
1. A brief description of a foreign business market opportunity for an existing company (a company that you are currently working for, are familiar with, or are interested in) or for a new enterprise of interest to your group.
2. An overview of known geographic (e.g. company location, R&D location, production plant location, market location), economic, cultural, political and technological factors that support the proposed global business. At this point you are not required to conduct extensive research.
3. A brief description of the potential market for the associated product or service to be offered. Again you are not required to conduct extensive research.
Progress Report
The progress report should not exceed 10 pages including references.
The progress report should address the following:
1. A synopsis of the decided strategic objectives (including competitive strategy) of the proposed global enterprise.
2. Research conducted to date on competitors in your product or service space operating in the country or countries that you are considering for your international business.
3. Research conducted to date on the chosen location’s geographic, economic, social-cultural, political-legal environments that will positively and/or negatively affect your business activity.
4. Research conducted to date on potential global business entry modes and strategic alliances that will be used or developed respectively.
5. Research conducted to date on relevant organizational structures to be used.
6. Remaining research to be conducted given the final report requirements (see below) and timeline for final report development including division of work.
Final Report
The final result should be a written report of no more than 20 pages including tables, figures, and references.
The final report should include the following:
Introduction (Include the information from the Business Opportunity Summary here):
1. A description of a foreign business market opportunity for an existing company (a company that you are currently working for, are familiar with, or are interested in) or for a new enterprise of interest to your group.
2. An overview of known geographic (e.g. company location, R&D location, production plant location, market location), economic, cultural, political and technological factors that support the proposed global business.
3. A description of the potential market for this product or service.
Strategic Objectives (Include the research conducted for your Progress Report here):
1. A detailed discussion of the strategic objectives (including competitive strategy) of the proposed global enterprise.
2. Justification of choice of strategy given the existence of competitors in your product or service space operating in the country or countries that you have considered for your international business.
Entry Mode and Alliance Structures (Include the research conducted for your Progress Report here):
1. A description of and justification of potential global business entry modes and strategic alliances that will be used or developed respectively.
2. Justification of choice of mode of entry and the need for alliances given the chosen location’s geographic, economic, social-cultural, political-legal environments.
Organizational Structures and Human Resource Requirements (Include the research conducted for your Progress Report here):
1. A detailed description of and justification of the chosen organizational structures.
2. A discussion of human resource requirements, placements, and training requirements if any as a function of business activity and organizational structure chosen.
Target Market, Promotion, and Pricing Strategy
1. A description of the product or service proposed for the global enterprise, including attributes, target market, customer benefits, and competitive advantage.
2. A description of the promotional strategy for your business as well as product or service.
3. A brief description of a pricing strategy that may be used given demand factors, competition, and any government regulations in the chosen country/countries.
Distribution Strategy
1. Recommend a distribution channel and intermediaries that could be appropriate for your product/service.
Measuring International Business Success
1. A brief description of selected measures of success from your global enterprise e.g. financial success, organizational development via learning and innovation opportunities, economic and social benefits for the target markets.
