Assessment 1: multiple choice tests
Assessment 1 – (10%) – Learning outcome 1,4
In week 5 students will be given a 10 question multiple choice test in the workshop.The test will cover reading from chapter 1-4 of Parthasarthy.. The test will be closed book. The test is worth 10%.
Note each class will receive different test questions.
Assessment 2: case presentation and report.
Assessment 2– (15%+25%) – Learning outcome 1,2,3,4
Student will need to form a group of four to prepare a presentation and a report on the strategy of an organisation. There will only be one presentation topic per organisation delivered per tutorial group. The presentation is worth 15% and the report 25%
Format.
In addressing their topic students need to use the techniques of strategic management (e.g. five forces analysis, SWOT analysis, generic business strategies etc.) in order to:
a) Outline the strategic situation facing your particular organisation in terms of its external environment; (5 marks)
b) Analyse how your organisation is equipped to deal with these external opportunities and threats in terms of its current resources and competencies; (5 marks)
c) Explain what particular strategies are being used at functional business corporate or international levels to gain comparative advantage in the current environment (5 marks)
d) Comment on the implementation of current strategies and propose ways strategies could be better implemented, and future strategies challenges or proposed future strategies you think the organisation should adopt. (5 marks).
e) Bibliography, citing of articles and general presentation (5 marks)
Presentation and Report.
A Powerpoint presentation covering these topics and not exceeding 8 slides needs to be prepared for presentation in weeks 11-12.
Presentations should be no more than 15 minutes. All students in the group must be involved in either presentation or preparation of the presentation.
The report should be structured in terms of the four sections mentioned above. Word length 3,000.
The presentation is worth 15% and the report 25% of the total mark.

Assessment 3: examination.
Assessment 3– (50%) – Learning outcome 1,2,3,4
Short Essay Questions.
These questions will test knowledge and ability to apply theory to the 7 cases covered in tutorials.. Answer 5 out of 7 questions . Each is worth 10 marks (10x5=50 marks)
