Swinburne Air wishes to launch their inaugural A320Service between Brisbane and Launceston.
Your task is to prepare a payload study for the route and prepare a comprehensive report addressing aircraft performance and flight planning issues.
You will need to refer to all relevant regulations and policy requirements of which you have been made aware.
You will be required to assess the two destination airports and identify any issues relevant to operating a regular public transport service.
This will include but is not limited to:
• Operational issues relevant to an airline operation
• Obstacle analysis
• Engine failure design for all available runways
• Post take-off procedure design for all available runways
• Noise requirements
• Pavement strength analysis
• Enroute terrain clearance in the event of engine failure or depressurisation
• Payload study analysis (2 seasons) to determine passenger and freight capability
• Route compliance
• Fuel Policy compliance
• Passenger and Baggage weights (Average passenger weight 90kgs, includes carry-on and check-in bag
• Fuel Tankering
You must include all of the reasoning behind your analysis.
You will be provided with material to assist in the completion of your report.
To complete the Payload Study,
• Design engine failure and post take-off procedures for each runway
• You are required to design a compliant route strings:
o Brisbane to Launceston, and
o Launceston to Brisbane.
• Determine seasonal payload restrictions based on average temperatures
• Determine payload capabilities in each direction
• Calculate passenger and freight capability
You will be provided with the relevant High Enroute Chart covering required airspace.
Assumptions
• Nil Wind ground speed is 450kts
• Seasonal is Jan, Jul, corresponding winds are
Jan – M20
Jul – P10
• Estimate fuel burn to be 2,400kgs per hour (inclusive of Climb and Descent fuel)
• Fuel policy requires:
30 minutes fixed reserve
10% variable reserve, capped at 1,000kgs
120kgs Taxi Fuel
• Non-ETOPS/EDTO operation
A320 Specification to be used.
• EOW 43,500kgs
• MTOW 77,000kgs
• MZFW 62,500kgs
• MLW 66,000kgs
• Max Fuel 18,300kgs
Engine out procedure design
• Obstacle Data has been provided for you complete the obstacle data cards in Excel and plot the obstacles and engine out procedures.
• Airport information is available from the Air services Australia website (DAPs and ERSA)
• Include all obstacles in the surveys in your Excel data card files
• Indicate which obstacles are the critical ones that should be included in a database for
RTOW chart production
• Design engine out procedures for all runways and if a turn is involved show all workings out for a high and low V2
• Design a post take-off procedure for all runways
• Plot the take-off splays on either a map, Google earth printout, or excel chart and indicate where the obstacles are located
• Speeds for turning engine out procedure analysis:
o Brisbane:
High V2 for high take-off weight: 158kts
Low V2 for low take-off weight: 135kts
o Launceston:
High V2 for high take-off weight: 144kts
Low V2 for low take-off weight: 130kts
• A320 loss of gradient in a turn = 0.7%
