Recent Question/Assignment
As a team, select one research question that you came up with in step 1. Using this question as a guide, each person should locate one relevant academic journal article, as part of an annotated bibliography. (Please include the research question you used at the top of this section so I can determine if the sources appropriately address the question. Your team should select one question for the entire team so each of your different sources should all address that question.) If you have three people on a team, I anticipate seeing three annotated academic articles.
There are several different ways to write an annotated bibliography, but all of them require you to cite the source and provide an analysis. For this assignment, please use the example below as your guide:
Source: Sharp, Seena. (2009). Chapter 2. Competitive intelligence advantage: How to minimize risk, avoid surprises, and grow your business in a changing world. Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Analysis: Sharp (2009) described competitive intelligence (C.I.) as a research process to gather knowledge and foreknowledge about a company’s full landscape. This information should help business leaders make decisions based on “foreknowledge,” defined by Sharp as indicators of the company’s future. Sharp specified that C.I. should involve more than simply an analysis of competitors because this provides only a limited understanding of the business landscape. Relevant information can be gleaned from a number of different sources. Fortunately for business communication students, this information is useful only to those who are trained to analyze it and then develop a plan of action. This chapter creates an opportunity for business communication students who can analyze information for an organization and then mobilize an organization to take action.
Note: The difference between an annotation and an abstract, such as the one at the beginning of many academic articles, is that the former requires some critical analysis and evaluation, not just summary. In the above example, while the annotation does offer you a brief overview of the chapter, it does not include every one of Sharp’s definitions, and it analyzes the information by pointing out the opportunity for MABC students. In sum, the abstract at the beginning of an article is not equivalent to an effective annotation of a source.
Significant quotes: Please list 2 quotes that you think are significant to your project. Following each quoted passage, provide the page number in parentheses.Research Methodology: While we typically don’t include a research method as part of an annotated bibliography, I would like you to do so for this assignment because it closely correlates with our class discussions. In 2-3 sentences, tell me not only the method(s) used in the academic article, but also evaluate whether you believe the method(s) were appropriate to answer the research question(s).
Developing the annotated bibliography allows you to practice with several research skills, including developing/exploring research questions, finding secondary sources, analyzing information, and citing sources. You will use these skills again in other MABC classes, including when you reach the Capstone.
Final Research Question selected: TikTok offers a vast amount of diversity of content to the user. How can the world’s fastest growing app impact future generations?
Each group member should provide scholarly article for step 2 and analysis of article by 2/23
