Purpose of the assessment:
The purpose of this assignment is to develop skills in problem solving, performance evaluation and deployment for networked applications. This exercise will provide scope to learn working mechanisms of simulation tools. Student will develop skills of modelling critical distributed network system to simulate. It will also require analysing capability to evaluate simulated results of networked application protocols. This exercise provides them the opportunity to demonstrate problem solving capability of distributed systems using modelling, simulation and simulation result evaluation.
Submission guidelines:
1. Your report should include the following:
• A cover page, identifying student (name and number), teaching staff, and assignment.
• The assignment must use 12 point font size minimum and at least single line spacing with appropriate section headings.
• Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list (IEEE).
• It should follow standard academic reporting guidelines.
• The written report should be between 2-4 pages in length( excluding cover page and references)
• The page numbers of the assignment must include in each page.
2. You do not need to submit extra document for your presentation. You can use your report to explain your work to you tutor and peers.
3. The assignment must be submitted in soft (electronic) copy in Moodle within the due date which will be checked by turnitin. Assignment will be marked on Moodle.
Description of the assessment: JUNISOR Company was established in 2000 which offer a number of services such as web, email, file transfer, VoIP and video conferencing. Initially the company had very few customers, so it provides all types of service from one server. Though different applications QoS requirement are different, the company could provide very standard service to its customer. Initially customers were very happy about the service. As the times goes, the number of customers increases gradually so the QoS in terms of delay, jitter, and throughput goes down significantly. In order to overcome the problem, the company took the decision to improve QoS. The major decision taken by the company is to move to distributed processing rather than centralised processing. The company wants to provide each type of service by each dedicated server. The company is not sure how much performance will be improved. The company has asked you to investigate the performance using OPNET between centralized versus distributed processing. The company has also asked you to investigate the performance of each type of application in three types of load LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH. You have to analyse performance on simulation and answer the following questions in your report.
1. What is the mean response time of centralized system and distributed processing of each type of application in three types of load?
2. Compare the load in terms of bytes/sec of centralized system and distributed processing of each type of application by varying load.
3. What is the CPU utilization of centralized processing system? What is the CPU utilization of distributed processing of each type of dedicated servers? Compare the CPU utilization by varying the load.
4. You have to summarize your finding after completing the simulation. In order to improve further performance you have make a recommendation for the company.
