WHY DO I HAVE TO WRITE AN ESSAY?
The Advanced Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science is a level 6 course with some units delivered at university level. AACDS must ensure students are capable of maintaining their studies at the required academic level. In addition, writing the essay assists applicants in gaining a sound understanding of the cosmetic industry, thus ensuring the right course/career pathway has been chosen.
ESSAY TOPIC
The 1000-word essay must focus on the importance of holding a formal qualification in the field of beauty and dermal therapy. The essay MUST also contain the following three subheadings:
1. Background of Cosmetic Medicine and Beauty Therapy in Australia (approx. 450 words)
You’ll need to consider the types of services offered in a traditional beauty salon 5 to 10 yrs ago. For example, facials, waxing, manicure etc, and compare that to the services offered in a modern skin clinic. The same applies to a cosmetic surgery practice. 5 to 10 yrs ago, cosmetic surgeons only offered surgery, they now offer a range of nonsurgical and dermal therapy procedures to enhance surgical results and capture a larger clientele. This section of the essay should be factual and not written in the first person (eg. “I” and “you”).
2. The Importance of Achieving a Formal Qualification in Dermal Therapies (approx. 330 words)
You can refer to media articles, safety issues, the incidence of injuries and statistics. This section of the essay should be factual and not written in the first person (eg. “I” and “you”).
3. My Goals and Aspirations as a Dermal Therapist (approx. 330 words)
You can write from the heart here! This section does not need to be factual and you can write in the first person eg.
“I”.
PRESENTATION OF THE ESSAY
The essay must be submitted in the following criteria:
1. Typed on white paper with size 12 font (Helvetica or Times New Roman)
2. Submitted as a MS Word document
3. Coverpage with your name and title: The Importance of Achieving a Formal Qualification in Dermal Therapies 4. Reference page (list your information sources)

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I’VE BEEN SUCCESSFUL?
A qualified Assessor (usually a Unit Coordinator) will assess your essay and email you regarding your enrolment status. All applicants are allowed a second opportunity to resubmit their essay if it does not meet the entry criteria on the first attempt.
