5. You must submit your paper in a format that is compatible with Microsoft Word. If I have difficulty reading your paper because of the format in which it was submitted, I will consider your paper as not submitted. Though pdf files are compatible with MS Word, the conversion process makes the files very difficult to read. Please do NOT submit your paper as a pdf.
6. Submit this as an attachment to Blackboard. I will not accept hard copies or e-mail submissions of your paper. Make sure that you know how to and can submit to Blackboard before the deadline.

8. You must also have at least 2 relevant and explanatory quotes from the primary text with which we have worked.

11. This paper is not intended to be a research paper. My expectations are that you will demonstrate an earnest engagement with the topic of the assignment. Make sure to dedicate attention to defining all terms, though. Do not cite dictionaries when providing definitions. Use your own words to explain the key terms of the topic.

Write a 500 to 750-word essay responding to the following prompt.
On marginal pages 57-58 of Meditation Four, Descartes discusses freedom. He explains that the more inclined he is to a particular choice or decision the more free he is. Provide an explanation of his position. This view of freedom seems to go against our contemporary understanding of freedom. Explain how Descartes’ view of freedom may or may not go against our contemporary understanding of freedom. (To clarify this possible difference, consider whether you would feel most free to choose when you have a multitude of choices or only a few choices when making a decision.) Do you agree with Descartes? Why or why not?
