Re-assessment of Result & Academic Appeal procedures:
If a student at Canterbury Business College is not happy with his/ her results, the student may appeal against their result via a written letter, clearly stating the grounds of appeal to the MSS / DSS. This should be submitted after completion of the subject and within 14 days of commencement of the new term.

Re-assessment Process:
• An appeal in writing is made to the ACC / MSS providing reasons for re-assessment /appeal.
• ACC / MSS will delegate another faculty member of CBC to review the assessment.
• The student will be advised of the review result done by another assessor.
• If the student is still not satisfied and further challenges the decision, then a review panel is formed comprising the lecturer/trainer in charge, the ACC, the MSS and the DSS OR if need be an external assessor.
• The Institute will advise the student of the appeal decision within 14 days from the submission date of the appeal. The decision of the panel will be deemed to be final.
• If the student is still not satisfied with the result, the he / she has the right to seek independent advice or follow external mediation option with CBC’s nominated mediation agency.
• Any student who fails a compulsory subject or appeals unsuccessfully will be required to re-enrol in that subject.
The cost of reassessment will be borne by the Institute. The external assessor will base his/her judgement based on principles of assessment. These principles require assessment to be reliable, fair, practical and valid.
Academic Appeals:
• If the student is dissatisfied with the outcome of the assessment marking process, he/she has a right to appeal the assessment results.
• The notice of appeal should be in writing addressed to the MSS / ACC and submitted within seven days of notification of the assessment results.
• If the appeal is not lodged in the specified time, the result will stand as marked.
• In emergency circumstances, such as in cases of serious illness or injury, the student must forward a medical certificate in support of a deferred appeal. The notice of appeal must be made within three working days of the concluding date shown on the medical certificate.
• The decision of MSS / ACC will be discussed with the DSS and will be final.

Overview
Prior to commencing the assessments, your trainer/assessor will explain each assessment task and the terms and conditions relating to the submission of your assessment task. Please consult with your trainer/assessor if you are unsure of any questions. It is important that you understand and adhere to the terms and conditions, and address fully each assessment task. If any assessment task is not fully addressed, then your assessment task will be returned to you for resubmission. Your trainer/assessor will remain available to support you throughout the assessment process.
Written work
Assessment tasks are used to measure your understanding and underpinning skills and knowledge of the overall unit of competency. When undertaking any written assessment tasks, please ensure that you address the following criteria:
• Address each question including any sub-points
• Demonstrate that you have researched the topic thoroughly
• Cover the topic in a logical, structured manner
• Your assessment tasks are well presented, well referenced and word processed

Case Study A
Sean has recently set up a winter sports clothing business, Tomahawk. He has hired a team consisting of fashion designers, factory workers, sales staff, and marketers. Sean is particularly excited about the opening of the first Tomahawk and website. However, he is also very aware of his responsibility to the community and environment. In particular, Sean is interested in appropriate means of saving energy, minimising the carbon footprint, and using eco-friendly materials in the production of Tomahawk clothing. He realises the need to integrate such methods and provide guidance for staff members in the form of a sustainability policy.
Refer to Case Study A.
1. Identify five sources that Sean might refer to for the purpose of obtaining information specific to the planning and development the sustainability policy.

Case Study B
Steve is the manager of the Blue Frog brewery company. His team produce a range of fine ales which are sold in shops and served in bars across Australia. Steve recently held a meeting which involved consultation with Blue Frog employees and customers. The decision was made to develop and implement a sustainable procurement strategy. Methods included as part of this strategy include the selection of responsible suppliers, use of eco-friendly vehicles, paying fair wages, and minimising the waste of resources in the production of bottles and packaging. Steve has encouraged the stakeholders to make further recommendations about appropriate ways of minimising resource use, reducing toxic material and hazardous chemical use, and employing life cycle management approaches.

Case Study C
Peter is the manager of the Greenways waste management company. Together with his team he provide a range of business and residential waste management services including collection, recycling, and skip hire. Peter recently held a meeting with stakeholders of the Greenways company and the decision was made to develop and implement a new sustainability policy. The aims of this policy include highlighting the commitment to the environment and promoting a general sustainability agenda.
Principles outlined in the Greenways sustainability policy include:
? Ensuring compliance and exceeding all relevant legislation where practicable
? Account for sustainability considerations with regards to business decisions
? Ensuring staff awareness and commitment to implementation of the policy
? Minimising the environmental impact of waste management activities.
Sustainability practices outlined within the policy include:

Measures that are outlined within the B-Fine sustainability policy include:

Case Study E

Measures outlined within the sustainability policy include the sourcing of wood from sustainable forests, arranging the delivery of furniture using eco-friendly vehicles, and using energy-efficient production methods. However, Connor realises the need to maintain awareness of sustainability issues and engage in a process of continual improvement.
