? This is an Open book assessment which you will do in your own time but complete in the time designated by your assessor. Remember, that it must be your own work and if you use other sources then you must reference these appropriately.
? Resources required completing the assessment tasks are Learner guide, PowerPoint presentation, Unit Assessment Pack (UAP), Access to other learning materials such as textbooks, Access to a computer, the Internet and word-processing system such as MS Word.

ASSESSMENT 1 (Short Questions)
Instructions to students:
The assessment has 6 questions. You must answer all the questions satisfactorily. To answer, students are required to setup or adjust their workstation in accordance with ergonomic considerations, particular layout of necessary documents and resource conservation requirements.
1. Setup or adjust your workstation, desk or work area in accordance with ergonomic considerations, the practical layout of necessary documents and occupational health and safety requirements.
a. Use the checklist in Appendix 1 to setup or adjust your work area. Additional information on the correct set up of your workstation can be found on the Ergonomics in Australia website at http://www.ergonomics.com.au/pages/400_useful_info/420_how_to_sit.htm .
Appendix 1 – Ergonomic and environmental checklist

b. Obtain the assistance of a friend, family member or colleague to take up to three photos of you seated at your work area. The photos are required to show that the height of the chair has been correctly adjusted for you and that the monitor and keyboard (and any document holder) are correctly positioned for you when you are seated at your work area.

c. Insert the photos into a document and add text beneath each photo explaining the key points of ergonomic compliance and the date the photo was taken.

d. Demonstrate five benefits of ergonomic procedure in front of the audience and describe these in your answer along with brief explanation.

The following exercises are designed to stretch the joints and muscles that are shortened while you work at a computer.
• Hold each stretch for 10 to 15 seconds.
• Be sure to keep breathing while stretching.
• Repeat each stretch two to three times.
• Repeat these stretches every one to two hours while working on the computer.
• Get up from your computer and walk around every two to three hours.
• Each stretch should be done slowly and carefully. They should not hurt.
Office safety strategy
Task variety: This is best done by mixing intensive keyboard use and other computer use with a variety of other work. It is important that the different tasks involve a change in posture and muscles used to perform the work.
Keyboard skills: When beginning to use computers, it is important to learn basic typing skills. This can be achieved through short but frequent training with the use of tutorial software programs. This approach can equally apply to two finger typists who may have developed a reasonable knowledge of the keyboard but cannot operate it without looking at the keys.
Computer settings: setting up favorites and using short cuts.
Breaks: Rest or work breaks can range from short pauses to defined breaks such as lunch
2. Describe two exercises and one other strategy (not exercise) that you can undertake to reduce the risk of injury when using a computer. Explain how often you would recommend the exercises are done

STRETCHING - The main type of exercise to prevent injury from continued computer use is stretching. It allows the muscles and tendons to relax and exit the state of tension to which they are subjected during typing or while sitting in the wrong position. Stretching is recommended every day because you need to relax your muscles daily.
Exercise 2
WALKING - Walk further from the shops and public transportation, or take a walk at lunchtime, are quick and easy ways to increase activity in your day. Walking can help prevent back and neck pain.
This is recommended at least three times a week.
Other strategy
ASSESSING RISK IN THE WORKPLACE - We all know we need to be assessing and managing risk in the workplace. The law is extremely clear that risk assessment is one of the key responsibilities of business owners and managers. Using the guidance provided by the Code of Practice for manual handling/manual tasks relevant to your state/territory is one of the most effective methods of assessing and analysis of risks.
3. Setup or adjust the energy conservation settings on your computer to perform the following settings. Take a screen shot of the settings screen showing that you have made the requested adjustments.
a. Set the monitor to turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity.
b. Identify the how to access the online help (manual) function
c. Use the online function to identify how to set the computer to go into standby mode after 1 hour of inactivity. Write the steps below.
