ASSIGNMENT 2 – MEASUREMENT OF A CONCRETE SUSPENDED SLAB
The Assignment Task
Using CostX and the drawings provided: -
i) Measure the concrete suspended slab and beams to the area of slab from grid 4 to grid 6 including the 250 cantilevered slab south of grid 6. Refer to the jpg -Ass 2 Scope Drawing-.
ii) Measurement must include all concrete and formwork to the slab and beams, bar and fabric reinforcement to the slab and bar reinforcement (including ligatures) to beam 1CB2 only. (1CB2 is on “Model” Drawing Level 1 S42).
iii) Ensure you put a TT note in the Dimension Groups for the reinforcement to the remaining beams.
iv) Transfer the take off to a Workbook i.e. prepare a BQ for the work measured using the same format as used in the Tutorials. The CostX file -Assignment 2 Concrete
Suspended Slab - Preambles Only- can be used as a basis for the Workbook / BQ. (A pdf copy of the Workbook / BQ is not required)
v) Queries can be made by email and will be answered direct to the student. These will be collated onto a “Query and Answer” schedule and uploaded to the Uni Site. The schedule and any other additional information will be put into an “Additional Information” folder on the site. The names of students asking queries will not be revealed to other students.
Notes: -
1) You are not required to measure all the beam reinforcement (1CB2 only).
2) Ensure that you turn off the appropriate layers as we did in the Tutorials.
3) You will need to calibrate the Beam Elevation Drawing(s).

Notes Cont’d: -
4) Use the same folder system as was used in the tutorials.
5) Dimension Groups will be similar, if not the same, as those created in the Tutorial
6) The measurements must be done from the CAD (dwg) drawings. The pdf drawings have been provided for reference purposes only.
7) When creating the New Building use the CostX “Based on” function which is on the “Building Properties” menu that appears when you click on “New Building”.
8) When using the “Based on” function to create a new building you must edit the Dimension Groups (including deleting some and adding others) and the Workbook to make the result a professional document.
Specification Notes
Refer to the Specification Notes provided.
The following notes cover the specification not included on the drawings.
a) All reinforced concrete is to be 25 Mpa
b) Concrete is to be pumped into position and compacted by vibration
c) All timber formwork is to be Class 3
d) Floor to floor height of building is 3.5 m.
Submission Requirements
The Assignment is to be submitted in electronic format and needs to include the CostX (exf) file and its attached drawings. This means that, on completion you will have to -Export- the Building and upload it to the Course site.
Ensure that you include your name in the Building Title in CostX and, also, on any other sheets / notes etc. that you submit.
Assignment 2 is worth 30% of the available course marks.
Preparation / Participation
This Assignment is to be undertaken on an individual basis. A plagiarism check will be conducted using Turnitin software.

Extension of Time/Late Submissions
As per School Policy – refer Course outline
DO NOT SEND AN EXTENSION REQUEST TO THE COURSE STAFF – IT WILL BE IGNORED AS
THE SCHOOL POLICY IS FOR REQUESTS TO BE MADE ELECTRONICALLY VIA THE COURSE WEBSITE
NOTE: - The penalty for late submission, without an Extension having been granted, is 5% of the mark for every day of delay up to a maximum of 5 days. After 5 days the system will freeze. This is the school policy and it will be implemented very strictly. The only exception is for valid reasons such as medical for which a formal extension should have been obtained by submitting necessary proof.
The submission for an extension must be done no later than 48 hours before the date that the Assignment is required to be submitted. An extension will not be granted after the close date.
The granting of an extension must be done before the date that the Assignment is required to be submitted.
