Assessment Instructions: (please read carefully)
• Working in teams of 2 - 3 students complete a written report in MS Word, based on one of the allocated business case studies on page two
• Teams to elect a Team Leader who is responsible for delegating responsibilities and coordinating the project
• The Team Leader must select the team members to be responsible for either 2 or 3 sections of the report (depending on the number in the team). This includes research and writing
• This research on the organisation is to determine the effectiveness of the various forms of communication used by the organisation and if this attributed to its failure or success
• You must use the following:
o A colourful title page (as per example on Moodle, but using a different graphic/visual)
o Five subheadings to be;
1. Executive Summary
2. Background on the Company
3. Analysis and any Reasons for Failure
4. Conclusions & Recommendations
5. At least two (2) References (Reference List on a separate page)
• Please insert appropriate graphics in your report
• Team Leader to submit the whole report on Turnitin and the rest of the team to just upload just the title page by the due date (an example of a title page is at the top of the page in Moodle)
• To save your documents please click on File and Save As using the Team number and topic name and your student ID number e.g. Team 3 Exxon Student 4100000

Four Questions to be answered in your Report: (either in the analysis or recommendation sections of the report)
1. What parts of the communication process did the organisation neglect or deal with inadequately? Or
2. What did the organisation do to communicate with its stakeholders?
3. Identify the ‘receivers’ with whom the organisation was attempting to communicate?
4. Describe the most appropriate channels of communication that the organisation should have used with each of the ‘receivers’
Structure of the Report:
Using the How to write a report as on Moodle follow the structure as on Slide 3
NB. Reports contain a headings and subheadings (unlike essays). For headings use a larger font, bold but not underlined
Please ensure your report:
• Includes a title page including your name(s), student ID (s) subject name and number assessment title and number, plus the topic name, addressed to and the date in the correct format with a visual/graphic
• No Table of Contents please - if under 10 pages
• Please use graphics and/or lists in your report (i.e. bullet points and numbers) and no long sentences i.e. Use Plain English
• 800 – 1,000 words (+/- 10%) words long (length as a guide only)
• Submitted electronically onto in MS Word format, Arial or Calibri font, 12 pt., 1.5 line spacing
• Is of a professional standard (spelling, grammar, punctuation)
• Insert a page number at the bottom of each page using Insert, page number, bottom of page and select Bold 3
• Use Show/Hide and Print Preview to ensure that your layout is correct (i.e. margins and spaces)
• Your report must contain some relevant graphics (see document design Lecture Notes in week 3)
• Must have 2 references and structured in the Harvard Style of Referencing (also on Moodle)
• Read the following marking forms which will assist with the writing of your report and presentation
The Oral Presentation:
• The findings will be presented as a report to senior management (please check with How to write a report on Moodle at the top of the page)
• The report will also be presented to the class in short form using PowerPoint as a visual aid. To be between 5 -10 minutes in duration
• Firstly, read the Marking Form carefully so you know what you are being assessed on
• Prepare a PowerPoint presentation (visual aid) of up to 10 numbered slides (2 slides per minute)
• If you have not used PowerPoint before you need to read the Notes on Moodle and ask your lecturer for any assistance
• Use graphics / pictures on your PowerPoint slides
• Use either 28 or 34 size fonts and only 3 – 4 key points on each slide and size 40-44 for headings
• Student group to share the preparation and delivery of the oral presentation equally
• The presentation should take no longer than 10 minutes (marks will be deducted if too long)
• Please practice your presentation and look at your audience not just at PowerPoint slides
