There are 7 questions covering a range of essential knowledge and skills from within this Study period. You should aim to write approximately 80-120 words for each question.
Part B: Report – Occupational Health and Safety/Work Health and Safety & Infection Control
This case study has 10 parts. You will need to answer each part, providing examples wherever possible. You should aim to write approximately 1500 words in total for this case study.

Part A: Case study – Legal and Ethical Requirements (1400 words)
You are an allied health assistant employed at an aged care facility. Some of your clients are cognitively impaired and most have limited ability to verbally communicate. Prepare a report for your supervisor that outlines how you will maintain ethical work practices and maintain compliance with legal requirements while working with these patients. Answer the following questions within your report:
1. How would you ensure that client rights are upheld?
2. What are your confidentiality requirements in regards to these clients?
3. How you would maintain client privacy in regards to client information? What are the relevant codes of practice in regards to your professional conduct in this situation?
4. a) What are your overall legal requirements while working with these clients?
b) Provide three examples of a breach in ethical practice that would require referral. Also outline whom the referral should go to.
5. What are your monitoring, reporting and documenting requirements for these clients?
6. What would you do if one of the clients verbalised a complaint to you about another staff member, e.g. another allied health assistant, treating them rudely?
7. What additional strategies could you implement if one of these clients was also of a culturally and linguistically diverse background, with limited English as her second language?
8. What are some common issues in relation to access and equity that are experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People?
9. What are some strategies you could implement if you had a client who was experiencing these issues?


Part B: Report – Occupational Health and Safety/Work Health and Safety & Infection Control
Choose a set of tasks that you would be required to conduct in your workplace. You are to prepare a detailed report outlining how you would contribute to maximising the safety of these tasks. This must include discussions regarding:
1. a) Your plan to maximise safety in the workplace while conducting these tasks. This should include: identification of specific hazards and Occupational health and safety housekeeping.
b) What is the difference between a hazard and a risk? Provide an example.
2. How you can contribute to risk assessment in regards to infection control and other work health and safety issues, including reporting requirements? Outline your potential sources of information (internal and external) in the workplace.
3. How you intend to update your own knowledge of work health and safety issues as they apply to these tasks and the systems in place.
4. How you intend to manage your own levels of stress and fatigue to ensure ability to work safety and sustainably.
5. How you could support less experienced allied health professional to work safely.
6. Two potential emergency signals and alarms that you may see in your workplace. Outline the required response.
7. Two pieces of personal protective equipment that you may use in your workplace tasks. Explain their use, storage and maintenance requirements.
8. How maintaining health and safety contributes to environmental, economic, workforce and social sustainability.
9. The work health and safety responsibilities of your supervisor and the OHS committee in regards to safety of these tasks.
10. How you would handle an emergency whereby a client was injured while under your care. Include a checklist that you may use.
