Part A: Case Study 3 – Case Management Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (800 words)
Paulini, a 55 year-old-Chinese female who follows traditional Chinese customs. She only speaks Cantonese. She is being treated by your supervising allied health professional.
Consider Paulini’s age and cultural background when you answer the following questions. Research the typical customs and culture of Cantonese to provide you with information to help you answer these question.
a) How will Paulini’s cultural practices and customs impact on her behaviour and interactions with you? Explain how this will effect your communication styles and practices with Paulini.
b) What action can you take to remove barriers, including communication barriers, as well as attract learning and enhance client development?
Part B: Case Study 4 – Case management and Challenging Behaviour (1000 words)
Kendell is a 25 year-old-male with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffered 5 months ago. While he responds to instructions, his behavior is impulsive, aggressive, slightly violent and sometimes sexually inappropriate towards female staff. His parents are present and report his behavior changed after his TBI. They report the entire situation being ‘stressful’ and ‘depressing’. Answer the following questions in regards to Kendell with consideration to his injury and his consequent behavior.
a) Outline the direction of your case plan in regards to managing Kendell’s behaviour.
b) How could you positively involve the family in your management of this case?
c) What other services and/or professions may be involved in the care plan for Kendell? Provide a rationale for your answer.
d) Research your legal rights and requirements in regards to working with Kendell and his behavior.
e) List the negotiation and diffusing strategies that you could use to minimise the stress and conflict of a situation whereby Kendell’s behavior has upset and angered another client.
f) How would you uphold your duty of care in regards to safety and security of Kendell and other clients?
