Description A.
“Martha was a placement from hospital. She has to be restrained for now anyway. The family said she is used to it in the ward.
She is constipated, aggressive and a two person transfer (failed rehab). She is a feed, incontinent and be careful cos she makes balls of her faeces and throws them at you! She screams endlessly. Good luck with her!”
Description B:
“Martha comes from Kew: she spent her life working for charities. Martha is a very smart dresser and likes her hair plaited at night. She has the most beautiful smile and has been diagnosed with dementia. She has come to us from hospital very constipated and has been trying to self-evacuate. She is also reluctant to move and seem to be in pain. We have started her on an assessment and bowel regime as well as immediate analgesia while we assess when the pain is occurring and what type of pain it is.
She loves you to make eye contact and joke with her. Her family brings in stewed fruit, which she eats with no trouble. Provided we ensure her hands are clean she also enjoys some finger foods. They had bed rails at the hospital but we have settled her into a low bed and she seems very happy.”
