Assessment 1: Comparative analysis and reflection (30%)
Overview
This assessment requires you to write a comparative analysis of Australian Aboriginal culture and your own culture of origin. If you are of Aboriginal culture you can choose to do a comparative analysis of your own culture (Aboriginal) with another culture of your choice.
As a basis for your comparison, you should familiarise yourself with Trompennars cultural value dimensions (see http://www.mindtools.com/paqes/article/seven-dimensions.htm) and Ferraros (2010, p. 20) -Have, Think and Do-. You may also like to look at the online tool from the Hofstede Centre which produces comparisons of national cultures across five criteria: http://qeert-hofstede.com/countries.html.
This reading will provide you with a framework to research and analyse Aboriginal culture and your own culture as your point of comparison.

Part 1
Writing your comparative analysis Each student will be required to write a comparative analysis of their own culture and of the Aboriginal culture.
Your comparative analysis should demonstrate an ability to compare and contrast Aboriginal culture with your cultural group using the framework referred to above
(i.e., Trompennars, Ferraro, and/or Hofstede). To achieve this you should select
one dimension of culture (e.g., particularism vs universalism, family systems, or
individual vs collectivist orientation etc.) to explore in detail.
The learning from your comparative analysis will be identifying similarities and differences about your own culture and Aboriginal culture. You are required to discuss some generalisations that can be made, based on the comparison of the two cultures that could be relevant to managing in the global environment.
You should use at least three credible online references, in addition to your customised text, to support your analysis and discussion.
Draft
Submission In Week 4 you need to bring your draft cultural comparison to the
tutorial. Within your team you will be providing feedback to each other on the comparative analysis using the marking criteria. You may like to agree who will provide feedback on whose drafts during the tutorial.

Part 2 The final part of the assessment task is your reflection on working in a multi¬cultural group in this Unit. You should include what you have learnt about yourself and others from the experience related to the theory from this Unit.
